New here? How to read these guides
Start with the earning table and TL;DR. Then check who the card fits, a spending example and how to redeem. Compare the live offer before applying.
- Cash back
- A percentage back on eligible spending. 3% on $100 = $3.
- Points / miles
- 2X means 2 points per $1 spent. It does not automatically mean 2% back. Each program has different redemption values.
- Welcome bonus / SUB
- Extra rewards for meeting an offer's spending requirement by its deadline. SUB means sign-up bonus.
- Churning
- Opening cards for welcome bonuses. Start with one card you can manage, not a pile of applications. Fees, interest and overspending can erase the upside.
- Transfer
- Moving rewards to an airline or hotel program. Often a one-way move.
The first rule: pay your statement balance in full. Interest can wipe out the rewards.
Who this card is for
Good if groceries and eating out are regular expenses and you want cash back without an annual fee. If most of your shopping is at excluded stores, compare a flat-rate card.
What that earns in real life
Illustration: $500 at eligible grocery stores plus $300 dining earns $24 at 3%. Another $200 of ordinary purchases earns $2 at 1%. Total: $26, without changing your spending.
How to use the rewards
Cash back is the straightforward option. Redeem for any amount; rewards do not expire while the account stays open. Compare a portal booking’s total price with booking directly before chasing the 5% rate.
Before you apply
Check the exact product name and offer. The current public SavorOne has a $39 fee, but older accounts can have different terms. Don’t assume a SavorOne referral opens this Savor card.
Compare the public offer with any referral and read bonus eligibility. Pay in full. Interest is not worth the cash back.
Pay your statement balance in full. Interest can cost more than the rewards you earn.
Quick questions
Does Capital One Savor have an annual fee?
The current regular Savor offer has a $0 annual fee. That is different from the current $39 SavorOne offer.
Which grocery stores count for Savor's 3%?
Capital One lists supermarkets, meat lockers, freezer and dairy product stores, and specialty markets. Walmart and Target are excluded as superstores. There is no guaranteed store-by-store list: the merchant's category code decides whether a purchase earns 3%.
Does Savor earn 3% at Walmart or Target?
No. Those superstores are excluded from the grocery bonus. Buying food does not automatically make a purchase qualify.
